The internet has not always been around, contrary to how it feels. Subsequently, we once lived in a paper and pen world.  In fact,  accessing information was not easy. Then our primary source of information gathering were books and newspapers. Now we look at websites. The world wide web has made such an impact on our lives that it is worth researching. We did so and today we are sharing about the internet’s beginnings.  In addition, how it took its course to become the giant it is today. 

A walk through internet time

The first sighting…

The US military developed the world wide web (www) or the internet in 1969. Firstly, it did not start off as well as it’s going. In fact, it all started off with a big crash.  Alarmingly, the first message to ever be communicated over the internet was supposed to be the word LOGIN. But only two letters made it through before both computers crashed. It was called the Internetting project. The system of protocols which was developed over the course of this research effort became known as the TCP/IP Protocol Suite.  This was after the two initial protocols developed: Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Internet Protocol (IP).

The internet into the 80’s

Both public domain and commercial implementations of the roughly 100 protocols of TCP/IP protocol suite became available in the 1980’s. 

The internet over the 90’s

During the early 1990’s, OSI protocol implementations also became available.  By the end of 1991, the Internet had grown to include some 5,000 networks in over three dozen countries. Thus serving over 700,000 host computers used by over 4,000,000 people.

The internet in the naughties

In the 2000’s spam became an issue. In fact,  these types of emails are normally linked to a website. Therefore, the internet came in handy to find and stop spammers. Interestly, the internet also became more of the world wide web as use and accessibility rapidly expanded across the globe.

The size and use of the internet

The internet is an invaluable tool in our world.  In fact, for work and pleasure, most of what you need you can find on the internet.  From shopping to reading, from conference calls to research. It’s all there for us when we connect. Initially, we used to have to go to the library to read, go to the shops to buy food and go over to someone’s house to chat to them. Subsequently, the internet has changed the way we live and work.

How does the internet work?

You can use your computer to access websites and information through the internet. THE INTERNET OF THINGS or  IoT is a term used to describe the ever-growing network of devices that are connected to the internet. These devices include everything from cell phones and laptops to cars and refrigerators. IoT devices that make up the internet are made possible by a technology called “telematics.” Telematics is the process of collecting data from IoT devices and transmitting it over a network.
